Preakness Stakes: National Treasure Wins in Baffert's Comeback
National Treasure Wins 2023 Preakness Stakes
The dream of Mystik Dan becoming the 14th horse to win the Triple Crown came to an end at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday evening when National Treasure, trained by Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert, crossed the finish line first in the 147th running of the Preakness Stakes.
Baffeert's return to the Preakness winner's circle marks a significant comeback for the trainer, who was suspended from the sport in 2022 following the disqualification of his Kentucky Derby winner, Medina Spirit.
Early Voting Finishes Second
Early Voting, the 5-1 odds favorite, put up a strong performance but ultimately finished second, while Creative Minister and Vicar's in Trouble rounded out the top four.
Lukas's Impressive Preakness Record
Trainer D. Wayne Lukas, known for his previous Preakness victories in 1980, 1985, 1994, 1995, 1999, and 2013, was unable to add to his impressive tally this year.
