Angels' Reyes Moronta: Selected to major league roster
Moronta returns to Los Angeles after brief stint in minors
The Los Angeles Dodgers have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Reyes Moronta from their Triple-A affiliate, the Oklahoma City Dodgers, the team announced Monday. To make room on the roster, the Dodgers optioned right-hander Phil Bickford to Oklahoma City.
Moronta, 28, has a 3.68 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 33 appearances for the Dodgers this season. He has struck out 34 batters and walked 13 in 36 1/3 innings pitched.
Moronta was originally acquired by the Dodgers from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a trade for right-hander Kyle Keller in December 2020. He made his MLB debut with the Pirates in 2017 and has also pitched for the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs.
The Dodgers are hoping that Moronta can provide some much-needed stability to their bullpen. The team's bullpen has been one of the worst in baseball this season, with a 4.65 ERA that ranks 27th in the majors.
Moronta is expected to be available to pitch out of the bullpen when the Dodgers open a three-game series against the San Diego Padres on Monday night.
