Tornadoes Touch Down in Chicago Area, Causing Damage and Delays
Eleven tornadoes confirmed, with at least one touching down near Sugar Grove
Chicago residents grapple with power outages and transportation delays in the aftermath of severe storms
The National Weather Service confirmed that at least 11 tornadoes touched down in parts of the Chicago area on Wednesday, bringing high winds and causing widespread damage. One tornado touched down near Sugar Grove, Illinois, about 40 miles west of Chicago. The storms also prompted tornado warnings for several other counties in the region.
Chicago residents are still dealing with the aftermath of the storms, which caused power outages, transportation delays, and damage to buildings. As of Thursday morning, over 125,000 ComEd customers were still without power in the Chicago area. The Chicago Transit Authority reported that several bus and train lines were experiencing delays due to storm damage.
O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport were also affected by the storms. On Wednesday, hundreds of passengers were stranded and ordered to shelter in place at both airports due to severe weather. As of Thursday morning, both airports were operating normally.
The National Weather Service is continuing to investigate the storms and assess the damage. Residents in affected areas are urged to stay safe and follow any instructions from local authorities.
