Man Charged in Gaudreaus' Death with BAC of .087%
Suspect arrested after fatal hit-and-run
On Sunday, March 12th, Jonathon Smith of Ferndale was arrested and charged with one count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in the death of Kimberly Gaudreaus of Southfield.
BAC of .087%
According to court records, Smith's blood alcohol content (BAC) was .087% at the time of the crash. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing Smith's vehicle strike Gaudreaus and then flee the scene.
Smith was later located and arrested at his home. He was arraigned on Monday, March 13th, and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
Gaudreaus' Death
Gaudreaus was a mother of three young children. Her family and friends are devastated by her loss.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Gaudreaus' family with funeral expenses and other costs.
Smith's Court Appearance
Smith is scheduled to appear in court for a probable cause conference on March 27th.
If convicted of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death, Smith could face up to 15 years in prison.
